My parents were country and western and took me to many shows. My brother was nine years older than I, and was an avid rock-n-roll fan. Dec. 13 would have been his 63rd birthday. In his memory, I'll start with Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I saw Skynyrd on their fatal tour, 2 nights before the plane crash. Got a confederate flag from Ronnie Van Zant.

Well today would've been my brother's 63rd birthday. In his memory I'll share the very first song we connected over. Every time this song would play on the radio, he would holler, " Hey, sis!" I miss my brother, even though he was a big PITA at times. Aren't we all though?

My dad used to play the guitar. We would sit in his bedroom for hours playing and singing. Mostly it was Johnny Cash. This was my favorite. I could have chosen a better video, but this one is more reminiscent of my childhood. It's vintage Grand Ole Opry which we always watched.

My dad played in a band in his younger years. They played what is considered rockabilly now. They cut a record and were going to go to Nashville and try and make it big. Mom gave him a choice. He chose family. That's how I became his singing partner. I was surprised to find this on YouTube. My dad is one of the original " fugitives" from Jackie Pittman and the fugitives. Here is their 45.

My all time favorite childhood Christmas songs.

I grew up near Dayton, Oh. My mom and dad would take me to these country and western shows put on by Box 21 Rescue. That's how they raised funds to operate back in the day. Not taxes. Anyway, what I liked about those shows compared to the concerts of today is that there were multiple performers at one show. My dad would always get us seats alongside where the performers would come out on stage and would put me closest to the rail. With much excitement, he would point them out. Fond memories. Here's one of many I saw.

Yes, in my teenage years, I was converted. I have to admit, we raised our kids on them.
