That coin is a beauty... did you dig this ?
Btw...
Welcome to Tnet.

Welcome to Tnet... What a find :)

Yes sir I did dig this coin. I will post a picture of what it looked like when I dug it as soon as I can find it. It was in great condition for 283 years in the sand. I cleaned it with hot water and baking soda over a piece of tin foil. I only cleaned it because it will be mounted to be worn from my chain. Many of the coins ive found here have been in great condition because they are buried above the high tide line.

I guess I shouldnt have posted this in todays finds since I found it in jan. Im still figuring this all out ill be more careful in the future. Sorry.

Ohh don't feel sorry. I would never have seen this sexy coin if you hadn't posted it here!

Welcome to TNet, and thank you for posting your 8 Reale....

Of course I've never even seen one except those posted here. And I'd certainly never seen the edge detail. Good gracious, that's one beautiful coin. With an edge like that it would almost be sinful to put it in one of those pendants hiding the edge.

You make a very good point , it would be a shame to hide the edge. Like dirtwisher says it is a sexy coin.

That coin is on my top 3 bucket list to find. Beautiful coin and in great condition. Would love to hear some details about the find like type location (dirt or water) possible shipwreck coin? We love details so we can feel what you felt when you found it.

Heres what the old girl looked like right after she came out of the sand. Just a light rinse in the ocean. Not bad for not seeing the light for 283 years. Thats another cob piece of eight that came up at the same time. It was about 2 inches deeper. Always check the hole again. photo-8.JPG

With those two in the same hole, I think I would have dug a 5x5x5 foot pit there :laughing7:

WoW! Whatta find! Super coinage! The cob is outstanding too!!
Did you clean it too?

Hey I see you're a fisherman/boat builder. I was a commercial fisherman on Cape Cod in the late 90's while I owned a small boat shop. AND you like detecting. You must be a great guy! Lol

That's got to be the best looking reale I've ever seen dug! Thanks for sharing!

Welcome to Tnet and congrats on that huge silver.

Love it. Thank you for the 'before' pics. Adds so much to your thread. Congrats!

That's a beauty and will look blingtastic around your neck! I've got a 1 reale around my neck but have two 8 reales sitting in a box at home...maybe time to upgrade my bling!
