I know, I know I post a lot of threads! I'm working on it! LOL

So I started yesterday building my 6".
I have one pontoon frame built,
Had my sluice bent up, right now its 10x20 but It'll be cut down later when I figure out how much flow I'll have.
Picked up more metal
Bought the engines Friday
Bought some metal Friday

So far $700 spent...all on the cheep stuff.
Still need pumps, suction hose (working on that)
Going to build my own flare, nozzle and foot valves...
Need to build riffles...trying to find info on dovetail riffles...

congrats! right there is all the motivation in the world man, i sincerly wish you all the luck this season man!

Congrats on the future dredge tender :icon_thumleft:

GG~

Thanks guys. Mama and baby is doing well. It was a big baby considering my wife is only 4'9" tall and was delivered C-section.

Congrats, given his size, he sounds like a heck of a rock chucker.

Hot dam congrats omni ..

Wow gona be hard to leave momma and head to the back woods with that new baby boy!

Congrats on the family addition, and for posting the build pics. It would be very interesting to watch it progress.

Thanks guys, my son is doing well, but mama is having some issues now... She had a cold before the baby and now is fighting pneumonia and a infection. You know its always been my experience that sometimes you get sicker at the hospital then when you came in!

Thanks. They're giving her massive quantities of antibiotics so hopefully they will kick in soon. I hope the infection isn't in her c-section incision.

Alright, so another update. My son is doing fine! He has already gained 1/2 pound, damn he's going to be a big kid if I have learned anything after a half dozen kids....
My wife, she is not doing so well. I don't remember what they call it but part of her intestines have not woke up after the C-section. He stomach keeps growing from bloating. She is not passing gas or having bowel movements. It's really painful for her. But last night may have been a breakthrough for her as she did let out a small "fart" and it smelled like it was brewing inside for a week! LOL that's a good thing... Hopefully she is finally able to let go otherwise its under the knife again to find out what's causing it.

On the dredge side, I havnt don't anything obviously but been going over in my head my future plans/ideas.
For my flare I'm building out of aluminum. It's going to be 48" long but I'm having a little trouble deciding the opening size. 6" x 7x16 or 8x18 or 6x16...
If someone has a 6" flare, could you measure your opening and help a guy out. I know there is a rule of thumb on this but haven't been able to find it.
Also is there any issue with building it square vrs rounded?

Glad to see you more calm..

And i was thinking about the same thing about the flare. As it would be way easier making it square. The only thing you would need is a 6" aluminum tube to attach to the rest.

I say plastic ! Easy to weld ! Cheap much cheaper than aluminum ..
A welder cost 100 dollars and the sheet,of plastic cost about 60 bucks for a 4x10 sheet ..
Much easer to weld than aluminum ... No breaks needed

Building it round is easy when you have access to a break.
here's how to do it without a jet tool.

Take a piece of all thread the length you want your flare to be (48" for me). Cut you a round circle at the size you want. Cut you a square the size you want. Find the center of each. Drill a hole that the all thread will fit. Nut on the circle and square on each end. Make sure they are tight and don't move.
Mark the starting point on both your flat stock and the cut pieces. Your starting point should be the center of the square, Put your seams on the side so if your building it 7x16 start at 3.5" and give yourself 1 extra inch for the seam. Mark your corners on the square. Slowly roll you square to a corner as you mark the point your circle touches the flat stock. Stop when you have one side made. Cut that out and use as a pattern. You want to trace both ends, but make sure you mark your corners well. This is hard to explain in text. It's so easy to show in person.

You should end up with something that looks like this from the black line to the side. The red lines that go across are were you use a brake to put little creases in. DO NOT MAKE BIG ONES. Just break the metal slightly. The more creases the rounder it wiil be.

You can also use Triangulation method here: That's how I learned first and it sucks..
How to develop a Square to Round

Or you can just lay it out on your metal, cut it out leaving yourself a over lap, then take your round side, a hammer and round pipe and form your circle.
As for the 6" side. make it bigger then six. Take a piece of steel pipe, wrap a layer of duct take around it and insert it in the hole. Use clamps to make it tight, You don't have to worry about electrolysis as long as you isolate each metal.

Yeah i agree is way harder to explain through text. If i do any fabrication would be actually paying for the labor i dont even have a hammer lol Im not so handy; im just a good observer. The only experience i have with sheet metal is when i bended the sluice box for my 4" by drawing a line and hitting with a chisel down the line while it bend and formed. But now i know where i take it and be done for like $1.25 for each bend.

I'll do a walk through when I build mine for anyone.
G, I looked for plastic, cheapest I found was $300 for a sheet plus freight.
Only plastic I found locally was 24x24 for $50...
It's not a option. It only cost me $35 for a half sheet of aluminum.
$13 for alumaweld from harbor freight so alum is much cheaper.
