https://tropicat.wordpress.com/2008/07/30/black-poisonwood-tree/amp/ yup I got the poisonwood....got it on my eye lid, both wrists, and a little on my man parts. BAD NEWS !! This stuff is eating me up right now. I paid the price for those coast guard tags. This tree is so caustic....just the dust from the leaf litter will burn you when your digging and sweating. I once got it in the bahamas so bad that I had to go to the hospital when I got home...they treated me with steroids and I had permanent scars from it. Its poison ivy X10 !!
Well its alot worse than people think in the bahamas....some bodies will never be found. I have lost one friend I'm sure......hes just gone along with his house. Were hopeing he'll show up eventually but it's not looking good. My buddy in abaco says there are many dead.
I hope your friend & his family turn up ok.
Unfortunately there are going to be alot more dead found.
The really sad part, are those never found...and those that have no one to care.
I hope this changes the way things are done, for the better.
As for itching, i have poured alcohol on itches, it burns, but that i can stand. It doesn't appy in all situations tho.
Ya....he is elderly and alone....hopefully someone came and got him up on the bluff. I fear the worst...there is only a skid mark and splinters where his house was. Beeps how's the little ones arm healing ?? My nephew is getting back to normal now after his cast.
Bart, hope your friend got out and you get some good news on him.
That is a weird coincidence. You get into it with poisonwood and yesterday I found this Oro tree while looking for a book.
"For a long time in Europe were sure that somewhere in the desert (Islands, mountains) grows the dreadful tree Oro, exuding a deadly poison.
The source of this information was a Dutch botanist Rumpf. Traveling to Indonesia, he asked the natives about which poisonous plants they use for their arrows. The natives told "the white man" with three boxes, and the result was this report:
"Underneath the tree do not grow any other trees, nor bushes, nor grass, not only under his crown, but even at a distance of stone's throw: the soil is barren, dark and charred as if. The poisonous tree is that sits on the branches of a bird, having swallowed the poisoned air, drugged fall to the ground and die, and their feathers strew the soil."
Actually nastoyashiy ANCHAR is not so poisonous. Its milky juice is really dipped arrows, and a long contact with the leaves can cause burns, but animals and birds can safely climb the trunk and sit in the branches. Poison is really dangerous only if it enters the blood or inside."
