Well UMC merged with REM in mid 1911 I think...

I’d go with the 1907 penny date, like imadigger said umc merged in 1911, the 1901 stamp is obviously no earlier than 1901 but did run for years after and none including the peters say made in USA which makes them pre 1927... 1907 falls squarely in that range

Thanks for the info. So they are all at least 1927 or older, good to know. The area I’m in is not very old, I’m in yucca valley CA. The 1907 penny is my oldest coin so far.

Here are some of the casing I found too. One of them is a big one, rim fire with no writing on it. One I can make out 44-40. Should I clean or not clean the 12 gauge? I know you can hurt the value of a coin if you cleaned it. Thanks

As far as I know there’s no cash value to headstamps as far as the large rim fire they fell out of favor in the early 1900’s and are most likely from the 1800’s

Goldmanmike, I got some like new, never fired, roll crimped, paper shells from the Great Depression era. In pristine condition they can auction for $1-$3 apiece. Unless you got something really rare, like a Robin Hood brand shell, you probably won't lose much value cleaning corroded brass shell heads.

The real money is in the shell boxes and rare, unfired cartridges.

The corroded heads are not worth much if anything as far as I know. Robin Hood made some really colorful two piece shell boxes that can be worth thousands.

Here a nice unfired 12ga. Robin Hood shell sold for a whopping $55. -

I see, I’d like to make a display some day with the box artwork over my found shells in some sort of frame. Sounds like the robinhoods will be good looking

Large on says 7.62 wolf I havent found that exact headstamps online yet. And i assume the other is a .22 of some sort but cannot find the marking been at it for 3 days

So ww2 on what I thought was a .22? And the other one you have is .223 mine is 7.62 think maybe same time area?

Welcome to T-Net Sean D.

That wolf is probably a steel case from a 7.62x39mm such as would have been shot out of an SKS or maybe a Kalashnikov rifle of some sort. Very common.

Casing headstamps for the most part are worthless for dating, most of them have never changed, Winchester h, Remington u... unlike shotgun brass which they would alter from time to time

Just got this one yesterday on a ranch here in Colorado along with some Henry and S.A.W. rimfire cartridges and a 1868 holed shield nickel.... I believe it to be a US Cartridge Company ... US flat head 16ga Ajax ... (1864 - 1926?)

That UMC Majestic was manufactured between 1904 and 1908, according to this source-

Also that large rim fire round does not appear to have been struck. If so, there is likely a bullet, or what's left of one, right near where you found it.
