About six miles southeast of McConnellsburg, Fulton County, on State Route 16, there is a secret Indian silver mine supposedly located in the James Buchannon State Forest. Stories circulating since the early days of the pioneers tell of Indians trading silver for guns, powder, whiskey and other supplies. All attempts to get the Indians to divulge the exact location of the mine failed, and it remains a secret to date.
