If you see the one that is buy it now for $8500, there is rim damage on the front and back. Also look at the 7, appears to be to much silver buildup in that area. There are to many raised areas on that coin and I am afraid that it is one of the many 40 year old counterfeits. Not to mention the fact that it has been cleaned. Just look at he eagles wings all built up, it appears that this one was not caught by the grading service. Buildup occurs when the coins are cast from a mold.

I stand by my estimation of AU-53 for Neil....... It is a much nicer coin than this slabbed ebay unknown. Not to mention Neils is a "rare coin" allowing grading to even be a little more forgiving. :laughing7: AU-55 or better?

:hello:

That's a Great looking coin :o congrats on the Banner well deserved by what the boys from your side say :notworthy:

I curious though about the cleaning :icon_scratch: is it better to leave it uncleaned :dontknow: do collecters prefer them uncleaned :dontknow: I know it's a rare Grade by what the outhers say :o

But it looks as if it would clean up rather well by the right person, is this a no.no there with these coins I would like to know, I clean all my coins if they need it Rare or not, and it has never effected the value, I was just wondering if it was recomended, or not :dontknow:

Once again nice find :icon_thumleft:

Re: 1795 Half Dime! This is what it's all about!!!

Since you're not selling it, obviously, do with it as you please.
If I found that, I would not sell it nor would I slab it.

Should that sentiment change, though, slabbing is almost a must.
As much as I hate slabbing in general, between authenticity and the potentially high grade, slabbing this is a no-brainer. So is sending it on the cross-company resubmission tour.

The only people who oppose slabbing in all cases are consistently delusional overgraders or inexperienced persons who bought a grossly overgraded coin, sent it in and was delivered the bad news. For whatever flaws they have, the big three are usually pretty good in the circulated ranges.

Unfortunately, whether you know it or not, yes, you have effected the value and potentially, in an enormous way. I realize European collectors are a good bit different than US ones, but that sentiment is universal AFAIK.

Cleaning is usually reserved for the crustiest of excavation cases to remove debris, not to simply alter toning. In this case, cleaning that coin would cut its value in half or more.
