Went on a road trip today to get some detecting in.
About 60 miles across country to the permissions.
6 sites were planted in winter wheat.
2 sites in a 1 foot plow, and 1 site partially cropped.
20231105_081558.jpg

So first target after 30 minutes 1867-1967 penny
20231105_084444.jpg

I said that needs to a 100 yrs older.
1.5 hrs later the next target I finally justified in taking a photo.
A saw nut
20231105_101433.jpg

I got tired of plow row detecting so I went on a corn stubble field, found what was a big ash layer down 6" and over a large foot print.
Probably a barn that burnt down.
So between the saw nut and this buckle was another 2 hrs.
I was thinking this is a hard day for no really good keepers.
20231105_124037.jpg

Few minutes later this item, a tie pin of sorts?
20231105_132901.jpg

Then a button
20231105_132115.jpg

Crushed thimble
20231105_125148.jpg

The next one I thought it only takes one to make a hunt.
Beautiful bell
20231105_134231.jpg

Little did I know that 10 minutes later life would so great!
Solid 80 on the Deus ll
I thought gee a coin would be nice.
Dug the plug saw the edge-and for next few minutes I just looked at it and said NO WAY!
I looked away looked down and said it again No Way.
I must of repeated this 10 times.

150 yrs of being rolled around in the field.
She's only been kissed on the cheek.
I'm too excited, too tired to clean anything up.
But will tomorrow and post the other stuff.
Perfect day!.

Wow. Haven’t been visiting the site much but glad to see this pop up. Can’t remember the last time it happened on our side of the border. Well done Pepper.
Thanks DigToChina
It seems that gold on this side of the border was very slim.
Public parks or gathering places have a better chance of having one.
I haven't found another coin st this site.
Today I spent a couple of hours there.
Got another perfect sounding 80 on the Deus ll.
I was within a few feet where I dug the gold.
I even clicked a photo of the screen.
But all 80's aren't created equal. 🤣

Sitting here enjoying a margarita and still drooling over that gold.
What a great find!
Thank you ModernMiner
Sorry for the late reply as been dealing with an under the weather type week.
Yes it still has me drooling as well everyday and the margarita effect isn't needed. :laughing7:

For gold coins and caches, I’ve always figured that’s not just due to population levels but mainly due to our historically stable banking system. I don’t know that for a fact though.

All 80's aren't created equal. 🤣
You could make a detecting t-shirt out of that 😂

Historically stable? Not so quick here as the Bank Of Upper Canada went bankrupt just 7 yrs prior to the minting of this gold coin.
Liquidation was just 2 yrs before, so little trust as folks lost millions.
Here's a good read:
Then we had other runs, the dGreat Depression where I personally knew in-laws that still buried money in the back yard. (No trusting the banks)
The soils were broken just 200 yrs ago, not much history.
Folks getting off the boat-just the working hands and a dream.

I agree that GT has made the ability to communicate is a lot easier in today's world.
Still have fond memories of Bangkok when we visited in 92/93 backpacking and buying silver.
