located 3 miles from the first days battle of Gettysburg is one of the most unique ways to stay and enjoy Gettysburg. The property was originally owned by Hance Hamilton in the 1740s. It was originally used as a plantation by two different owners. The property also served as a confederate encampment, field hospital, and had one of it's residence held prisoner during the battle of Gettysburg. Later in 1927, famous Hollywood actor and Broadway star, Oscar Shaw purchased the property and held many parties here. In 1940, the son of a famous British naturalist, and a veteran of the Boer war purchased the property. His fathers hunting lodge in Britain is named Rainworth Lodge and this is where our name comes from.

The property is located 3 miles from the site of the first days battle on Oak Ridge that ended with the union being pushed back into town, in part to the Major General and his men that occupied this property during the war. You're still a short drive from Gettysburg historic town center "3.5 miles south" and all the shopping and experiences the town has to offer. With 2 acres of land, there's plenty of room for group events to be hosted or enjoy the peace and tranquility a home outside of city center has to offer. One of the largest homes at 3,100 sq.ft, if not the largest civil war home and land in Gettysburg you can reserve exclusively to yourself.

Metal Detecting Gettysburg Pa. : Historic Rainworth Lodge

Feb 16, 2024
We are back at the historic Rainworth Lodge in Gettysburg Pa. and today we are going to metal detect the grounds and surrounding woods. We hope to find some artifacts that are unique to the home and lodge. Since the house is very near the Gettysburg battlefield, we also hope to find some relics of that battle.
