I have seen these stones in many places in the area
of SE Oklahoma where I live, they are often mistaken for
carvings made by man, but the explanation I got was, they
are natural (concretions), where the softer sandstone wore
away, leaving the harder, darker, patterns.
When i worked for the late Gloria Farley, many people
told us of these type stones, believing they were (treasure
markers).
But she also found many that were carved, including the
giant stone in Heavener, believed carved by nordic peoples,
around 1100 AD, plus many (turkey tracks) & others.
