is it a token or a coin or something else?

I found this on one of the beaches here in Florida. I believe it is some sort of play coin or token of some sort. I understand that there are a lot of people on here that are good at identifying odd things. it is about the size of a quarter it is brass/copper in color. There is what seems to be writing and a date, but I don't believe it to be an actual date. I really believe this a play coin, perhaps from a game or something. I hope someone has seen one of these before. Thanks for any help.

I think it may be a novelty item, as there isn't a denomination on it or writing identifying as a token

Nice find PBK...

The coin posted there isn't even as in clean of condition as this one.
It's interesting that they say 5 have been found in different locations, but all on the east coast

Hi All

Thanks for all the energy trying to identify what this thing is. I followed one of the links and got on a path to this link, which narrowed it down to a coin from a Pirate Kit from Barnes and Noble. So it appears to be a "toy"

Again thanks to everyone. This is my first time on this site, and I think I,ll hang around. There are a lot of great people here.

I found this book/kit by Valerie Garwood. Can't be certain because the picture isn't detailed enough, but it might be the "coin" in question.
