Well today was the day. I went back for an after work hunt to my newest field permission. I went back to the area where we had found some flat buttons on Saturday. Did not find a single flat button there today but Im still in disbelief of what I did find. Was finding some old junk when I got a bouncy low tone. I saw the reeded edge in the clod and at first thought gold plated clock gear or kids gold ring. Soon realized what I had and could not believe it. It was hard to focus after that but I did later find a KG III but who cares. I found a 1852 gold dollar!!!

Shame it's scratched twice. Really kills the collector value.

Its not for sale anyway. Im a digger not a “collector”. Besides its got more than two scratches and a nick in the rim. Truly horrific to a collector but in astonishing condition for a circulated coin found in a plowed field

Toasted - Incredible find, especially as I suspect that getting a gold coin on the East Coast is extremely difficult to do. A big CONGRATULATIONS to you. Beautiful coin! :hello2:

Thanks. I should have included the pics from the site in my initial post but it wont let you edit after awhile. Trying to quell naysayers and doubters, if any, because Ill be the first to admit I was one until gold coinage was in one of MY plugs

Some people we don’t need to question my friend! You are squarely on that list. If I don’t comment on a killer find there’s usually a reason for it. Sometimes our silence speaks much louder than our replies. I love dirty pics and always try to post some with the cleaner pics. Beyond giving validation to a post I just enjoy seeing the difference between dug and cleaned and seeing what method was used. Congrats again

It’s been packed in dirt and rocks for decades. I can show you some real scratches lol

That is a choice little coin. I guess I am digging foil and 22 shell casings again for the next ten or twenty years.
