Please help me to identify this item size is 1 1/4" by 3/4".......it was found at a location thta has giving up items from late1700-1920's.......what is it and how can i determine its age?

Thanks all it does look like a suspender clip........Probably gonna be hard to determine age though? There are no other markings or patent numbers on it at all......
