Went to a few banks today and at one of them, I got $22 in nickels (all the CWR the teller had).

Clearly this was some sort of collection or just someone had an old pile of nickels lying around as inside these rolls were a lot of old nickels (some of which were uncirculated), some impaired proofs, a few buffaloes and a few war nickels, all mixed in with some modern nickels (however, I think the latest date was 2006). The following pictures show samples of what was in the rolls.

Out of the rolls, I was able to find 4 buffaloes (1937 x2, 1936, and 1926 (barely readable)), 2 war nickels (1944P, 1945S)

Found some of the better dates, including the 1950D (nearly BU condition), 1950P, 1938D x3, 1938S, and the 1939S. In the picture are also a few 1938Ps - one of which was in BU condition.

These are the other BU old nickels I kept from the roll. I think the 1941S is the full-steps variety.

These are the proofs (1968S, 1969S, 1970S, 1978S x2)

These are the novelty nickels (both 2005) - one the reverse is colored and the other is some sort of "golden" color

That’s fun. That’s why I like customer wrap rolls sometimes hoping to get that right there.
I am totally with you. I never search boxes of coins, and in the case of dimes, I always ask for CWR and I usually wont even take MWR dimes. Nickels, I do the same - ask for CWR, but I will take MWR in nickels if that is all they have.

Customer rolls are pretty, hard to get where I am, so most of my finds come from boxes. You must have a great area to hunt.
Yeah, I am in the NYC metro area, so there are tons of people and a lot of banks. Also, and I don't know this for sure, but I think it helps that this area is not "newly developed" compared with some places in the south and west. So there are people whose families have been living here for generations (so likely to have old coins) and at some point the possibility exists that they end up in a CWR at a bank. I am not sure of this, just my thought.

Absolutely killed it! All that out of $22 in nickel rolls. Now that's a post!

After seeing such great finds I think I'll begin mixing it up alittle with customer rolls...I went with boxes because I was getting results...and wasn't getting anything from the customer rolls....

With the economy the way it is, I can see where folks are cashing in what they can. I might need to get some go roll hunting again. Nice finds!
