Thanks Gypsy, that is a cool story. I have read some items on that site but missed that particular one. My GG Grandfather was also a sheriff of Greene Co. He was the 4th one and was in office two terms in the 1870's The famous picture of Wild Bill wearing his Union frock jacket with the Eagle belt plate and both pistols in his holster in reverse, came from a relative of mine. They sold it a few years ago, it was in a family photo album. Dan Fouts bought it a few years ago. Fouts was the Quarterback for the San Diego Chargers football team. He collects old Cowboy photo's. I was told he paid twelve thousand dollars for it. You know the saying you can pick your friends but not your relatives! Tsgman

Unreal...I wouldnt have sold it....I have some older volumes of Civil War records and will look for more on Moss if you need them ....

Great story Tsgman....Finding Relics that link something or someone to past History is a special find. Then finding the information is the best part , Not knowing what info your gonna find or the places or the person themselves who are involved....Make those finds exceptional....I myself have found a Relic from the Civil war that had a name on it...It's a commemorative medal give to a Union Soldier who was captured at the battle of Plymouth and escorted as a Prisoner to Andersonville ,GA during the war....When I have a little more info on this piece I will post the story.....and for you Gypsyheart ,you have given some excellent insite and research for many of the finds posted in this forum...I also want to thank you for your help with my Medal as well as Tsgmans....... Now I truly feel that I have been honored by some of the best researchers and detectors on this forum. Its your finds that provide me with the research material to go on. You know I love 1812 and CW, so you keep finding it and I will happily research it for you. And thank you for providing me with such great material to help you with because it has kept me from going insane this winter as I cant dig in this frozen tundra!!!!! :)

Re: 1875 English cent, used as id tag. Tsgman

Gypsy, thanks for your info. I mentioned Moss was Sheriff when in fact he was the Marshall of Springfield. My Great Great Grandfather C.B. Owen was the Sheriff of Greene Co. in 1872 and was relected again around 1874 or close to that. So They would have known each other and worked together chasing bad guys and so on. My Grandfather told me a story when I was a kid about how his grandfather [Sheriff C.B. Owen} was the principle guide for Gen. Sigel when Lyon attacked Price at Wilson's creek. Sigel was routed by a regiment from Louisanna, he thought they were from Iowa. Anyway, His Grandfather was interviewed years later and asked how he eccaped without being shot, killed or captured and he replied that " I had a dam fast horse! " Thanks again, Tsgman

PLAIN AND SIMPLE, I AM IMPRESSED.....it is always a great feeling to be able to tie ones history into your own, most people will never know what it is like to hold onto something that was lost along time ago, and be able to trace it to a historical person.
great job.
