Re: Large Balls....what are they?

Looks like one of those belly rings my dau and her friends wear! LOL...j/k

Hmmmm, never saw anything like that before. Prob a connection piece to a farm equipment...kinda like ball bearings would work. Not sure, as I am not familiar with farming equipment....I saw a tractor once :)

Re: Large Balls....what are they?

Could they be used in a conveyor belt of some type? Some type of roller? Thats all I can come up with.

Re: Large Balls....what are they?

Interesting the way it is made. are the balls open around the connecting shaft? it looks that way from the pic. Like they have been almost drilled and the connecting shaft inserted. Any military action in your area in the past?

Simease twin bowling balls? ;D

Re: Large Balls....what are they?

I knew the title would get you guys (and gals) looking along with some humorous responses...you didn't let me down.!!!

To answer a few of your questions.... first off, the hole made in the balls is larger than the diameter of the shaft connecting them. THe rod is inserted and I assume welded in place. They are made of steel and not brass, so that ruins one theory!!!hhaha Lastly, it was found in Central Illinois...far away from any possible nautical battle. One theory locally was something to do with a counter balance for a steam engine.

Don't feel bad, left several people I've showed them to scratching their heads (insert joke here!!!! ahaha).

Re: Large Balls....what are they?

I said steel meaning non-brass...so not sure if they are steel or iron...they don't appear to be machined...appear to be cast. Sorry for the confusion
