Excalibur 1000 help

I'd like some help from yall restoring this beauty back to her former glory.

Planning to get a new shaft, already installed new knobs but I'm stuck on what to do with the cables.

All the seals look good to me but please correct me if I'm wrong

Sorry, cables can not be replaced, they are not designed to be replaced, you will need to have new coil and headphones installed. Seals can be replaced when coil and headphones are replaced.

Other than the official repair center, you may want to give Tony Eisenhower a call to see what he can do for you. He does all my Excal mods, coil repairs/replacements, and headphones.

Anything can be replaced. The question becomes, can it be waterproofed again. Watch Joe Beechnuts videos on how to replace the coil cable wire. You have to make an epoxy well and seal your work etc. As for headphones, unless you're a glutton for work just get a new used pair of waterproof headphones and you'll solder those to the board. Again, watch the vids a few times and decide if you have enough expertise but that looks like a great machine to practice on.

The coil cable is soldered to the coil windings and then resin is pored over the windings sealing the splice with the chip in the resin. In the 5 years I worked in Minelab repair we never found it feasible to replace the coil cable when the cable jacket was destroyed down to the coil windings.

I wish Dave and I could have worked together those years at KellyCo.. We really could have engineered some amazing things.

Once I found the correct cable it was fairly easy, the main thing is to make sure the fixed is locked in using the old heyco coil fitting as a anchor. Just finished this one for one of my modified Excalibur's. Li-ion batteries, and the single control for the pod is something new I am playing with.

Li-ion battery 12.6V..tried 16.8V but the board ran way to Hot. The 12.6V with 3 Samsung 3500mAh batteries should get me about 50 plus hours of hunting. The 16.8V 4 cell ran over 106 hours, but to much stress on the board.

OBN, you guys would have most likely taken detectors to another level. Your are both detector gurus. Dave is easily the smartest electronics man I have ever met, and although you and I have never met I have followed your posts and mods for 15 years..
