Well, I finally did it. After over 53 years of metal detecting, I managed to detect and recover a gold coin! Not just any old gold coin, but, a real old gold coin. It's a Celtic quarter stater, initially identified as a Dubnovellaunus from 25 BC to 5 BC. I had to go to England to do it, but, that was half the fun! I also found all sorts of other items too, and I'll post some more photos when I get the time. Right now, I'm still on cloud 9.

The design is similar to both the full and quater stater. Weight and diameter would help ID the coin. Figure just about 1.3g and 11 mm for a 1/4 stater and about 5.55gm and 17-19 mm in diameter for a full stater.

The design are normally a matching pair although die types vary. It is the weight thats the biggest clue.

I know next to nothing about old foreign coins But a gold coin is of course a really great find . So it would indeed be worth going half way around to achieve your feat . Congrats
