zinc "sombrero"

found in the back yard of my in-law's cabin. the property dates back to the 60's while the area dates back to 1890. found about 3 inches down.

I think I've seen these on "What is it's" of the past. I'm thinking they were ID'd as well plug caps or something like that ???

I dug a copper version of that, which is an ashtray.

nope, I work with aluminum every day; this is definitely zinc. it's so brittle that I had to stop cleaning it when it started crumbling

it could be a sacrificial anti corrosion anode.zinc commonly used for them and they can be any shape as required.
