Found this Yves Brayer framed piece at a local thrift store for $5 and took a gamble on it.

Anyone adept with this stuff and know if this is an original, a print, something else? The front is smooth. I've attached some images that show the visual details.

Secondly, of the vast amount of Yves Brayer stuff online, I can't locate the exact name of this piece or one quite like it, though horses figure prominently in his work.

It certainly has some age to it (how much is another question that I'm not able to answer), indicated by a browned paper backing to the frame and a tag that it was framed by the now defunct L. Bamberger & Co of Newark, NJ.

Any help at all would be much appreciated. :notworthy:

Sorry but I know nothing of this artist. Hope it is legit.

The reflection off the glossy/ reflective surface makes me think it is a print. They added swirly lines to give it the effect of brush strokes.

A quick search shows some of his works were untitled. My advice is to look at it with a magnifying glass, to see if there are brush strokes etc, also look at the signature to see if it's painted etc. Look for dots in the artwork, a clear sign of being printed etc. You can google how to tell if a work is original or a copy and it will give you things to look at. Other than that I can't give you anything else. Good luck.......

Without actually being able to handle and inspect this piece, my initial thought is that it's a print from the 1950s - 60s.
Great advice from Mike and Don.

Wish I could've been of more assistance,
Dave

looks like it was printed on textured paper, not really seeing any paint texture
