Your DREAM MACHINE, or what would you like to see in future MD's?
I've taken a layman's view in studying various aspects of the metal detectors on the market and I have my own idea of what I would like to see in future metal detectors, but I was wondering if anyone else had some ideas on the future direction of metal detectors and what features they, (you), would like to see in future models?
Personally, I would like to see detectors with dual receivers that would allow for canceling out iron, (bottle caps, nails, etc), on one side and pull tabs on the other. I think this would allow the electronics to analyze the output more accurately. Current MD's seem to be stuck in "mono" mode. And a stereo audio output from dual receivers would give a better idea of what was found. This might mean having to use a single Tx, (transmit) coil with dual Rx, (receiver), coils. This would nearly double the circuitry involved, but I really think the result would be worthwhile.
A second idea I had that I've mentioned in another post elsewhere is that, I would like to see an MD with multiple Rx coils, similar to those used in microwave arrays, as I believe this would add directionality to a received signal along with better pinpointing ability.
I'm not an electronics guru, but I look at things from the perspective of the end user and as a layman, I seem to come up with what I think are good ideas. I may even find time over this next winter, (I shudder at saying that word), to experiment with this myself, but I know that I'm not very well equipped to handle the delicate electronics involved in such a project and might, (very likely will), end up toasting some electronics in the process.
Anyone else out there with ideas on this?
