I am sure when we talk to someone and tell them about this hobby they almost ALWAYS "What is your best FIND "? Ok my question is what do you consider your best find. NOT the find it's self but what you feel is your best find ? EXAMPLE I feel my BEST find was a lost wedding band that had been lost for over 40 years. Turns out the wedding band was 4 or 5 generations old. It was from before the civil war and had been passed down
When i found it the 81 year old lady that lost it and started screaming and crying :) Heck she had me crying with her. To top it off she did NOT WANT me to Waste my timer LOOKING FOR IT. She told me 4 or 5 other people had looked for it with no luck and did not want me WASTING MY TIME. I almost had to fight with here to go home and get a detector and come back.

HOW do you or what do you determine what A Best find would be ? Mine is MAKING SOMEONE EXTREMELY HAPPY

ALSO if you would please share with us the story of it

Can't top that one Gare. One time I found a DL, some credit cards, some cash a lady from up north had lost down here so I mailed it back to her address and hoped for the best. She actually got it and sent me a really nice letter sayin she was glad there was still honest people in the world. Well, regardless of what you see on the news, still a lot of honest people in the world.

I have had a FEW more memorable returns !!!

About 25 or so years ago I belonged to quite a few metal detecting clubs. I would get a lot of email from them. One email i got was about a person in Australia was detecting around a old vacant military hospital. The person sent a email to a club in Ohio i belonged to. Seems he found a ww2 dog tag near that hospital and would like to send it back to his living family. The person was mustered in in the Alpena Michigan area. My self i am originally from Allegan and Kalamazoo Michigan. My grandfather used to be Sheriff in Alpena county. I took it on my self to call all the people with the last name on the dog tags hoping for A GOOD RESULT! People even back then did not like talking to strangers and would hang up on ya. I had a little speech made up begging people top hear me out. One guy told me he thought that family had moved to Grand RAPIDS Mi. I used to live in Kalamazoo which was 60 miles south of Grand Rapids. on my third call to GR I asked this guy "Did your father serve in the army during WW2 and was he stationed in Australia. He replied no I said ok Thank you and started to hang up. He said WAIT a minute . I paused he said he father wasn't but he did !!!! I then asked him if he remembered losing his dog tags? His reply was HOW i the HELL did i know that ? I then told him about a guy over there found his dog tags and wanted to return them to him. He started getting choked up about like i was LOL. I got them each others phone number and they talked to some time . The guy sent them back and the news papers in GR did a big story a full page on it. They did not mention me but I did not care I was just happy i could make ANOTHER VETERAN very happy . Robert did tell me HE GOT INTO a LOT of trouble for losing his dog tags. Robert Did send me the page of him on the news paper I still have it here some place

That is cool, Gare.
