I went back to my new spot today, where I found the Pestle last week, and did pretty good again. I think I finally found the hot spot in the field. I had been hunting a ridge up by the RR tracks and was finding some good pieces, including the Pestle, and I decided to move to another ridge closer to the river and I found 5 Points, a Knife which may be a small Cobbs, and a really nice Plummet. All of the flakes have an edge worked on them somewhere and are Flake Knives or Side Scrapers.

I was just getting ready to leave because it was getting a little cold and I'd already found the Points and the Knife plus a bunch of Scrapers when I thought I'll take one more pass up and back before I leave so I turned and took about 5 steps and I saw what I thought was a small stone to my left and when I flipped it out, bam, there was the Plummet. It's a little exfoliated, but still a very nice example and the fattest one I have now. It's made from black Hematite and would have been beautiful when it was first made.

Here's pictures of the pieces I've found on this new site in 3 hunts and my first video I ever did. I have a feeling this place is going to be very good to me.

thats a rock I know for certain this is a rock for I have seen many rocks. I have looked at rocks for years and years.View attachment 629507lololololol

Not a "rock". It's another Pestle. You can see the pecking on it and the bottom is worn smooth from use. Nice try though. :laughing7:

Looks like you found some great artifacts Steve. I have yet to find a plummet. Cool pestle also!

Those are some super artifacts...

I'm leaving shortly for Ohio to help you gather some more.

Nice finds. I voted banner on the plummet. If rusty old buttons can make the banner then a rusty old plummet ought to make it. And besides if I ever found one and posted it I would want someone to vote banner. Thanks for the look.

Super finds, Congratulations! Hey, Steve, could the ''Rock'' be a mano? Just wondering, it kind-of looks like a crude or unfinished one that looks similar to some that we find out here.

lol steve i knew it was a pestle but thanks for clearing it up :icon_thumleft: just giving you a hard time.

Great finds Grim...How rare are plummets? Do you know if they are found in ND/MN? Lars, TWitko ?

T.

Dang you did good Steve. I especially like the pestles & plummet for sure! I've got the plummet
marked off the 'list to find'...(which is like unheard of to find around here)...but, still haven't found
a pestle yet. Are your pestles made of quartz?

hey thanky white county paleo,
but nope, i cannot ever remember me or twitko finding a plummet or pestle
funny thing they did not use such a utensil since the earth lodges that the mandan women built were big enuff to hold twenty to thirty people

Most of the ones I have found have been made from Granite, but that one on this thread is made from Quartzite.
