You Know It's Hot When...
Your tires separate...and they're not even moving.
Me and a friend took my boat to a nearby lake to do some shoreline and shallow water hunting. This particular spot is easier to access by boat than to hike down the cliffs above it. In the late 20's to early 30's a gambling barge had been moored here and a lot of tokens and some old coins have come from this place. With the lake down we can get a little further out and I wanted to find a few more of the gaming tokens. I ended up finding one and a wheat cent along with some clad and a junk watch. We didn't last long in the 106 degree heat. I get back to the boat ramp and start walking towards my truck. It was parked in the full sun on a blacktop parking lot. There's no shade at this boat ramp. When I get close I hear what sounds like squirrels running up a tree or bacon sizzling in a skillet. It was coming from the boat trailer so I ease over to take a look and see the tread separating on my tire right before my eyes.
So I'm thinking, back it into the cool water to stop this nonsense...Didn't really work out like I expected...I guess the shock of the sudden temp change made it worse. We go ahead and put the spare on, pull the boat and get a 1/4 mile down the road and the spare comes apart and blows out...Now what? With a little luck and a cordless sawzall we saw off the excess rubber on the bad tire, which is still holding air, put it back on and limp home on the steel belts...
