At least for now.

Have any of you come across the new parking meters that are equipped with credit/debit card readers? They say you have the choice, you can use your coins or credit or debit cards.

I saw a news story about this saying how great it was that you don't have to hassle with bulky change anymore, now you have the option to use your credit/debit cards. They were making it sound like change is a bad thing to use and how it would be better if everyone used their credit cards.

To make it even easier on you and to make you want to stay in the stores longer, they have even enabled them to where you can send a text message to the meter if you are running out of minutes but don't want to walk outside to reload it,you can just text the machine and it will take invisible $ from your card and apply it to the meter ::).

I know the community of CRH's is very small and not significant in the grand scheme of things nationwide, but maybe if everyone who reads this can tell people they know about it and how if you THINK about it,it's not such a great thing after all, maybe we can make a small difference.

If their is an opportunity for you to use cash or COIN over using a credit/debit card, please do so.If we go along with this as well we will just be telling the PTB's that we want to move toward a CASHLESS society.

Not only will we not have COIN to be able to search anymore,we will not have ANY tangible cash to hold in our hands at all!

Have any of you on here who are actual coin "collectors"(not just silver hunters) ever wondered what happened to the billions of coins used for century's by all the nations who joined the European union?Where did all the coin go ???

All you can find now are Euros!

You've made some excellent points.

Regarding the old currency of Europe, a lot was saved and simply sits around in coin shops and old change jars, but a very large number of coins were demonitized. If you ever see a coin that looks really wavy or waffle-like to the point that its denomination and other features are unrecognizable, you've seen a demonitized coin.
