I really like this board and love reading the Illinois posts. The only problem I have is that is a little intimidating for us downstate MDers. Speaking for myself I drool at the images and stories you have. I may not be fair with this post as I have only been MDing for a little over a month. Don't take this post the wrong way. I am very happy that you have excellent areas to hunt. It is because of your posts that I have such an interest in MDing. That and the fact that my son is always excited about going with me as well. I say all of this with "tounge in cheek". I am sure that there will be a day when I can post my downstate "silver" finds. I am still learning the tricks and locations around my area and I am doing this with my son which makes it even that much more fun.

A week ago my son and I had the pleasure of meeting up with DP Bob for a hunt. Bob sent me an PM and said that he was going to be in my area for the day and asked if we would like to join him for a hunt. We really appreciated the offer and he was good enough to help locate a site. We didn't get rich, but we did have a nice afternoon and it was fun for us to meet one of the "Chicago legends". :D

This gets me back to my reason for posting this. Some of us downstate may not have the "silver and relics" pictures, but we do have a nice picture of DP Bob. ;D

We look forward to reading and seeing your pictures and will someday make it to the windy city to hunt. We hope to meet the rest of you when time allows. Thanks for keeping us excited and interested in the hobby. Enjoy the pic!

Whoa! You met Bob and you still want to hunt with the rest of us?!?

That's our kind of sickness!

Welcome and looking forward to your digs.

Oh yeah, we have population density on our side historically, but the Peoria area has more time on the ground if I'm not mistaken, and a lot of the old sites thereabouts have not been paved over already so it's where you put your coil!

I found my best looking seated dime (1873) in Pekin at Mineral Springs just across from the pavillion.

And the larger parks there are still producing goodies on par with anything we'll get around here.

Welcome to the IL forum

:D :D :D

You live in a cool area for "oldies" as well. . . as Lowbatts said. . . there's stuff in the ground just waiting to be dug

I was afraid someone would tell me how sick I am. It was actually fun to watch DP pull out those memorials. He is a true pro!! I think I might even have some video. That we will save for another time.

Nice to hear that you found some seated down here. There are many areas to hunt yet that we have just not had time to get to. We have a pretty good list in our head. We live 20 minutes east of Peoria which is nice because I don't think there has been much taken around my area.

Thanks for the welcome and maybe we will get up to the big city some day. Keep posting those hunt days and perhaps I can grab my son and we could make a day of it!

welcome metman, i too am in awe at some of the things they find near chi town.

Hey Metman. I've been detecting on and off for 35 years. This forum has giving me lots of motivation
to MD more often. 3-5 times a week in rain snow mud and dust, if the coil isn't on the dirt your finds
are going to be few to none. This year has been my best year ever and hanging around these guys on
this forum and in the field is AWESOME. HH DFW

marinedad . . . it's bad enough they post the pictures but the videos are awesome :headbang:

Is it me, or does Bob look more like Stephen Raichlen as time goes by?

kimsdad . . . i see what you mean

Dirt fishing Wolf . . . i agree totally. i have been out in some very hot weather (but the exercise and sweating can't hurt me). for only MDing for about four weeks we have collected around $35.00 worth of clad and 4 wheaties and a few cheap bracelets along with the usually 80 lbs. of junk. but boy what fun!!

Metman,

I concur with Lowbatts...how did you EVER deal with Bob for more than an hour??? LOL, I am SO kidding. Bob is a great guy and a great guy to chat with. You'll find that a lot of us geeks can sit around and talk about the hobby for hours. This is why we have our get-togethers on occasion.

We always have our arms open to fellow Illinois folk, mostly always to Indiana folk, and almost never to Wisconsin folk. You're lucky you're south and not north! You're in a great area believe it or not. Do some more research on your area, you'll find hotspots just about anywhere.

Stick around, and please don't hesitate to contribute, even if you're only finding clad. As mentioned previously in this thread, we are truly a sick bunch.

Joe

It was fun indeed.
To bad the parks didn't pan out to good.
Keep searching that map site I gave you...
Don't be afraid to ring a door bell , oh wait, Knock on a door ;D ;D and ask for permission at some of those old farms.
It was nice of you to post the picture and It was nice meeting your son " nhagan "
Let us all know when you might be coming up. I'm sure we can have a hunt or meet and greet lined up ahead of time
I'll be back down there for a few days soon.
I'll give you a call

LOL Neil!! That guy actually looks a lot like my old Weather & Climate professor I had in 2004. He was a real jerk. I have never met anyone so full of himself as he was. If he didn't like the way you looked (and he didn't like the way I looked, as most people don't!), you were pretty much screwed. If you didn't kiss his @$$, you were screwed. I'll never forget the way he'd talk about his married life: His wife trained him to urinate sitting down like a girl, because he had bad aim or something and she grew tired of cleaning up his mess. So he basically lived in fear and was constantly paranoid that his wife would find him preparing to urinate like a man.

Sorry, no one can claim I never recite pointless anecdotes!
