Well so much for my 2 weeks in the mountians! Had a great start Friday prospecting for gold got some small stuff, then Saturday turned on me! While crossing the south fork of the Touleme River my Mom hollars look at all the trout just as I turned to look my boot found the one rock covered with slime, you guessed it I went flying sideways!

Smashed my right knee, got my right foot caught between to small boulders jammed my right elbow and my right wrist! My poor Dad was freaking out because of my already messed up back, he's trying to find one of the camp workers to take me back to our camp on a golf cart.

Get back to camp and my arm is swelled up like a balloon. I spent the next 3 hours bawling with my arm shoved in a 7lb bag of in ice (thanks Dad!) trying to get the swelling down. Got it down enough to get my medic alert bracelet off and now trying to figure out how I was going to get down the mountian (120) with one hand to drive with, mind you I am right handed.

In case you have never been down hywy 120 its a steep grade windy grade, that you reall should have 2 hands on the steering wheeling. Seen a lot of folks burn up their brakes on it. Droped the car on low and scooted down the mountian made it with no problems except for the 4x4 behind me that was mad and kept honking at me cause I was doing 30 (which is actually the speed limit)

Get home have my crew unload my car and off to Kaiser I go. Knee and foot are just bruised up, elbow was slightly dislocated (no news to me have been dislocating my elbows since I was a kid) BUT my wrist is fractured, not a bad one just one of the 8 tiny bones in my wrist has a break in it.

The Dr. tells me she suspects that there is a "sneaky fracture" that is not showing up "yet" in x-ray because of the major sweling and big time black brusing. She put me on a temp cast like split, she said couldn't cast it fully even if there is a bigger break in it she can't see because of the swelling. So Monday I go see my personal Dr to have a dye x-ray (what ever that is) done to see if there is another break that didn't show yesterday.

Hopefully there is no other breaks and my wrist is better quickly. I am supose to go fishing and do some more prospecting with my dad in a couple weeks.Didn't get any pictures which stunk since it is so beautiful up there.
Hope your weekend was better tha mine!

Just got a call from the radiologist and it is out right broken, dosen't understand how the dr missed it. Getting full arm cast (finger to shoulder) tomorrow. There goes my summer. :'(

Sorry about your bad luck destobrat, hope you have a speedy recovery!

P.S. Hang in there

So other than that, how was the trip? Kiddin',of course.Sorry to hear about your mishaps and hope the healing is fast.Did you see the trout?

So sorry your vacation ended so quickly. I hope you will heal fast and be back at it before you know it!

I did something like that about a year ago. Had my MD and shovel and was all hooked up and in a hurry to try out some new settings I had read about on this forum. Misjudged the step in my garage and BOOM! Down I went. Broke my leg in three places. Took forever to heal and I still haven't been able to MD on my own yet. Good thing my hubby likes to do the digging! LOL!

And I thought I was accident prone! DAng you did it up right! Hope you don't have any trouble learning to swing a detector and dig with the other hand. ;) I think it would take a full body cast to stop me if I really wanted to get out and detect. Get well soon now. Monty

Gawd, what a bummer!

So sorry to hear about your arm; take care of yourself, willya? Maybe this is the time to find out what all you *can* do left-handed...

take it easy,
Nan

HI GAL: I hope that the pore detector wasn't hurt? So you will now retrain / program your brain for left hand usage, it is easy. I have done it. Soon you will be reaching for the coffee with your left hand without thinking.

Detecting ?? hmm well where there is a will, there is a way.

You are in my old stomping grounds, see Susan / Clayton Boudreau in Modesto.

Finally the cast is OFF!! Time to go play :D in reality it will probably be another week before I get out in the water and dig. After almost 3 months my hand and wrist are so stiff. I am so glad to be out of that thing! Thanks all for the well wishes.
