Detecting has been pretty good of late with the finding of the Indian Pipe with Letters( Listed in Fur Trade section and Artifact Forum) but finding a George Washington Button is something I never thought I would ever dream of finding. I have been finding old coins and buttons along a major creek in WNY. After digging a 3rd regiment button from the War of 1812 and a large cent the next signal turned out to be a large button broken but interesting just the same. As I was wiping off the dirt I realized I just found a George Washington Button. It is broken so I was disappointed when after another hour of detecting I failed to find the missing piece. So as luck would have it I am missing the date of 1789 but I have a GW button and as far as I am concerned it is a keeper. A few days go by and I bring my Canadian friends with me in the area of where I found GW Button. After spending a full day of detecting I leave and say goodbye and my buddy Paul is jumping up and down and I wave goodbye again and go home. Paul was jumping up and down, come to find out, because he found another GW button. A WHOLE ONE ..!!! MY, My 1 3/4 buttons found with the hopes of 2 1/4 buttons still waiting to be found. I guess they came in packs of fours only time will tell. Paul button is the whole one.

Sure seems like a lot of these are being dug up this season - (not implying that they aren't extremely rare finds - just an observation)
Great Find !

You can't go wrong with a GW button. I'm still looking for my first one. I feel like this is the year....:laughing7:

casper2Z.JPGA LGER.gif SOMEONE SAID THEY WERE SOLD IN 4's - MAYBE 2 MORE OUT THERE

KILLER finds! Yes, you've got a coat worth of discarded buttons there. You will likely find one or two more. One digger recovered five as I recall, so perhaps they were in sets of five? That is, if none were lost and replaced with normal large sized flat buttons...

Congrats,

Buck
