This was not found at my cellar hole site, my cousin actually gave me permission to hunt the yard at the farm house. So far just a couple old matchbox at 2-3" down.

The object in question was about 6" down dimensions are 18" long and 4" high, thickness about 3/8". He was not unable to identify it either so I said I know just where to turn.

I have seen that on the plows of old farm equipt.It holds the "shifter,for depth,I beleive

Thanks, much better I'd than my best guess of new guy at the saw shop.

I think it is a lock for a wagon brake handle the handle pulled a rod fashoned to the brake block against the rear wheels. the handle had a flat piece that fit in the the piece you found.

Thats where I initially recalled seeing that,but I couldnt place in my mind why it would ratcheted? :icon_scratch:
