on my last outing. The brass eluded me yesterday but 69's are always nice to find! They are my favorite Union bullet to find. I have found close to 200 at this spot! When cleaning the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia cuff button with the least gilt I found last week I was amazed to see it had a silver washed back! This is the first Massachusetts Volunteer Militia button I have ever found with a gold washed front and a silver washed back. The backmark reads Superior Quality. It has close to 100 percent silver wash on its back!!!
I have a feeling this is a pretty tight little button! I have included a picture of the button front and back and a picture of all 4 cuffs that have come from this location in the past 2 weeks. The epaulette pan came from there as well as did my beautiful emerald green US boxplate with both loops still attached. I am pretty sure the Michigan button belonged to a soldier from the 4th Michigan and the Massachusetts buttons belonged to soldiers of the 9th Massachusetts who were camped with the 4th Michigan. Hope the summer continues to pruduce brass! HH Devonrex
