Yesterday's find

Went to a clearing out house sale yesterday. Major dump of a house (still amazes me how some people live(d)). No power and no flashlight, so off to CVS I go for a flashlight. Note to self, always have a flashlight in the truck.. No great finds, manages the two below GE Flip Clock Radios for $1. Thank you to who ever mention them somewhere in the "Garage Sale Section". They cleaned-up nice and I will feebay one this weekend and one the following weekend. Don't want to flood the market, ha. The only other items I found; some copper and brass scrap pipe, and a box of 1898 Piano rolls. Don't think the rolls are anything too good. Seems like "Jazz" rolls do real well, but there was none of those.

Happy hunting!

Re: Yesterday's find

Nice finds!!!!

The last flip clock I saw, my cousin picked up at a GS for $3, and sold it on the bay for $100. Are they still that strong, price-wise?

Looks like about $25-30 average depending on make and model. I'd spend a couple to make that.

Re: Yesterday's find

Wow, those flip clocks have really softened in value. IIRC, there was a time that the low end would have been $70.

Re: Yesterday's find

The use for them has slowed . They where not being used as flip clocks but to add a automated feel to projects ppl where doing . In other words they where gutting them for other uses . So the market adjusted on them like any item on ebay that sells well at some point some one floods the market .

Re: Yesterday's find

I learn something new every time I visit this forum.

Can you expand on the type of projects that people were using flip clocks?

To create countdown clocks . Add them to mechanical projects . There was a lot of different call for them about 1-3 years ago . Just like the number vac tubes have a big calling in steam punk projects . http://steampunkworkshop.com/ pretty cool with some links to other builder sites . These projects also spawn other projects with different uses . Alot of the 20s-80s stuff is easy to re purpose into other projects because it doesnt take a computer programmer to make controls for them .

Re: Yesterday's find

On the flash light note - I bought a 5 pack of 5 led tube lights that run on 3 aaa batterys . both cars have 2 and I have one floating around where we keep the car keys . I havnt had one run out of power yet and then are easy to pocket when the light turns brighter . 5.99 at ross's for them all on a budget rack .
