So I had a little extra $ to play with yesterday afternoon before going in to work. Stopped by my bank to pick up a few boxes on a whim, since I haven't done any crh'ing in a while. I wanted to get a box each of cents, nickels, and dimes. The tellers didn't have any nickel boxes, so I just got the cents and dimes. As I'm walking from my car to my apartment (I have to park on the street where I live), I happen to look through the holes in the non-dated String & Son box of dimes, and see something unbelievable!! Yep, you guessed it folks, that's a MERC ENDER!!! WOW!!! I can see that it's an s mint mark, so no '16d :'( . I haven't opened the roll yet.

I'd like to know if I should try selling the roll on Ebay, or just open it. Any idea what this might fetch in an auction? This is only the 2nd merc I've ever found crh'ing, and it's been well over a year since the previous find.

Oh yeah, the box also yielded one other silver, a '63d Roosie.

Didn't get the chance to crack into the box of cents before I had to leave for work, but there are no enders showing for that box.

Anyway, pics of the merc ender are below. Enjoy!!

I'd say not much due to the fact that you could simply weigh the roll and see if there is more silver.

The "unsearched" wheat cent rolls with a Merc showing certainly sell well on ebay. But, there is absolutely no way to predict what would happen if you listed your roll. My guess is that with shipping included it would bring maybe $10. After fees and shipping, you'd clear about $6...which would be exactly like selling your Merc for $1.10...and thats assuming its the only silver in the roll. Should there be another silver in the roll, that would be getting a whopping 60 cents each for them.

Then again, maybe some crazy bidding war gets started and it sells for $30+. Long ago I auctioned a VHS tape (that I bought at a yard sale for 25 cents). The tape was used obviously, and didn't even have its protective sleeve. It ended up selling for over $40. You could buy them brand new all day long for $20.

My advice is if you are going to list it, start the bidding at the absolute lowest price that would make it worth your while. If it sells, you're happy. If it doesn't, you still have a roll of dimes with at least 1 Merc in it.

The suspense would kill me. I'd open it.

Open it. I've found quite a few mercs but never an ender.
