Yesterday's Auction Find.

Greetings everyone!

I wanted to share this nice Adena cache blade which I picked up at auction. I work for an auction company that deals in prehistoric artifacts. I coordinate all phone bids and absentee bids for these auctions. The wages I am paid I spend on artifacts while I am working the phones. I had my eye on this blade before the auction and waited to pounce on it.

This blade is 3 inches long and 2 inches wide at it's greatest width. It is made of mottled cream and carmel colored Flint Ridge. The blade is moderately ground (heavily in some places) around the entire edge. It was found in Adams Co. Ohio and was formerly in the Rex Carr collection.

Hope you enjoy it!

I noticed that I have a point made out of the same material. If you look on the pic I posted, it is right behind the bright brown colored head. Maybe these two points came from the same area. By the way that one you have is a real nice keeper.

Re: Yesterday's Auction Find.

Morning,

That is a very nice blade indeed. I can just imagine a beautiful dovetail point made from that piece of stone. Keep looking, seems you have the perfect positioning for finding the good stuff. GREEN WITH ENVY!! :D

Anything is possible! Do you have any info on the point? Flint Ridge flint has been found on the Eastern Coast as well as the Gulf area down south. So it's not unheard of to find Ohio material out your way.

BTW-Atlantis I feel very fortunate for the position I am in! I don't get to buy much as these auctions generally top $100,000 for a mere 450 lots for sale. At least I get to handle and study each piece before it sells!

Thanks for all the replies!

Cheers!
