Yes

Gpx 5000 would be king kong if they gave it vdi readings and depth and made it water proof basically a screen like on the 3030 but only on the Gpx 5000.

they would probably call it the 25000

& you know what that means :laughing7:

Well gee, wouldn't we ALL want a machine that a) can pick up a coin to 1.5 ft. or more down, b) can reliably VDI/TID it, as in the fashion of our standard coin machines.

But alas, no, it doesn't work that way. And of those super high powered nugget or beach pulse machines, that can effortlessly pick up coins at more than a foot deep, are technically unable to VDI to those depths :(

Wishing they could...

VDI combined with PI machines apparently aren't meant to be, or it would have been done by now.

BUT - you CAN accurately ID ferrous vs non-ferrous with a GPX, I do it all the time. With some practice, you can also predict the difference between brass (low conductor like a button) vs lead (mid-high conductor) a high percentage of the time - all through the audio response. It takes a lot of practice, but it can be done.

None of the other ground balancing PI detectors on the market can do this to the degree you can with the GPX, though. That's why a lot of guys prefer it in the relic fields as compared to the competition.

And there is still the limitation of very slow recovery times effecting a PI detector in general, which keeps you from using one in trashy areas.

I beg to differ with you Ft. Bedford. That ability that you speak of for the GPX (ability to nail-check or discern iron), is only effective for the top 5 or 6" of depth. Beyond that, and everything will/does start to sound the same.
