Yellowish Water Powder In Water

I boiled this water for 20 min because the water where I live looked a little yellow some days it's more yellow looking than other days and after boiling it for 20 min I took it off the stove to let it cool for an hour and started pouring it into my filter towards the bottom it had this orangey lightish brown powder in the bottom of it does anybody know what this is please help me out people give me some info and advice on this if you can if I run it through a Brita picture with a filter after boiling it for 20 minutes too will it be okay to drink the water help me out people let me know your thoughts.

probably just minerals in the water, but you might want to contact whoever your water supply comes from. They also sell water test kits at places like home depot and ace hardware
 

Iron would be my guess. Could be the water, could be the pipes in your building. You could always run a magnet through it and see if it sticks.
 

Just go to the local hardware store and buy an iron testing kit.
Usually under $10
