I did not find this today, but a couple of months ago. Its a half eagle, dated 1805. I thought it was gold at first until i had it tested to be made of brass, a counterfiet all day long. I figured it had been passed many times over its lifetime before it was droped and lost. I was the next lucky one to recieve this coin, lucky me lol. It was found down close to the north carolina coast between new burn and havelock. It is so worn , that you can just make out the date.......what are your thoughts on this coin .........

It's cool. Better pictures please.

It's still cool to have the coin, the counterfieter passed off to someones hand and now in 2012 it's in your. Yep, cool find.

You will find a gold gold coin someday.

thats no problem , already found three in my life time bobcat... i found a gold double eagle back when i first started mding on the bank of the chatahoochee in gorgia , 1978. but i still look for them....

Dang Catbird, you have found gold coins, awesome. I like the one you found here, it makes one wonder who initially passed it and where it has been. Nice find, congrats.

I think that's still a really cool find. I saw one posted on a forum a few years back that someone had dug.... a counterfeit, but seems like theirs tested out at about 12k

Catbird i have been hunting a while and i have not found a gold coin in the wild as i call it. I am still searching for that glitter. Hope you find several more. Cheers. Bobcat

one other place i found gold is here in raleigh, a real 5 dollar gold piece. if your town is old , its probably had a few fair grounds. raleigh has had 3, the second had a horse track and that was where i found the coin. the second fair grounds was located on the back streets of hillsborugh st. across from the present day NC state university, this is also the army base during the spanish american war.....it was called camp bryan grimes. just alittle history..so if you have any old fairs grounds in your area, get permission and get hunting...

awsome coin even if it may be counterfiet could be a protype of the origional... LOL HH and congrats on your gold coins
