Imagine my surprise when I washed this thing off a few minutes ago. Found less than 20 hours ago. I got the find on video and just recorded another video of this as I (re)discovered it! This is one of my best finds man. How something like this can survive in a cultivated farm field boggles the mind! This was my very last find yesterday afternoon. My wife reminded me we had to leave and I was crying "one more signal". Minutes later I dug this and we walked on back to the truck!

Now, WHAT DOES IT REPRESENT? ANYBODY KNOW? Seems very familiar but my mind is currently too clouded by excitement to think straight.

:headbang:

I have no clue???
But man is that old.
Pewter back??
You would think they would have made it out of silver?
That is the coolest button I have ever seen..
Cant wait to see what you and others come up with.
Awesome Gary!

George I think this is copper. Just a guess but probably gold plated at one time. I am stoked on this find man.

Amazing find Gary! Is it possible those are ravens on the cufflink? If so, I'd like to share some info with you but will have to do it offline. Congrats on a very cool and unique find.

Looks like 2 birds facing each other, maybe a crown above. Looks to be 1 of a linked button pair, from early 1700s.

Thanks Bill. Pretty sure I have your email. Will send message.

Ok, thanks. There are 2 old sites on one tiny ridge of the field. Very sandy, the sites are separated by a mere 50 feet. Although found on the newer site (late colonial) I suspect this was sourced by the older home which appears to be at least 50 years older. Almost positive its been hunted before. Way too much ground clutter and iron and too few signals. We're headed back on Sunday.

Keep clearing the iffy signals.

Oops, the video was private by mistake. Please watch, its short.

REALLY excited to see what this bad boy is! What a gorgeous colonial find sir!

As stated an early 1700s linked-button.

Very cool button, liking it!

This is a later 19th C Livery Button, but you get the idea. I think its an early Livery & the crown type will tell you if he was a baron, for example.
Thanks Cru. This and what Bill D. just wrote in an email to me gives me a very good idea of what it could be. Basically, as you say, a crest of a possible land owner (Baron) who's name I won't mention. Otherwise, I'll have local detectorists on my trail. lol

That is an exquisite bit of history you recovered there, digger. Nice!

I love/hate that my own "one more signal!" promises. When they get reinforced like that, it is soooo much harder to stop the next time.

MAN A FIND LIKE THAT WOULD MAKE ME DO CARTWHEELS !!!!! THATS A AWESOME FIND , CONGRATS .

That is a very beautiful button or cufflink.
I agree, its amazing the gilt/plating has survived so well.
It must have something to do with the clear material that encapsulated it.
Or maybe its pure gold encapsulated in glass or some other material.
Anyways, whatever it is, its super nice and cool. I feel your excitement.

Wow talk about different, very cool
