Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
So my two buddies and I hit a private beach this morning with some history to it. Found a buffalo, a barber dime, a wheat, an old yale lock, and usual old beach finds. As we are about to leave he gets a solid 12-04 on his CTX and comes over to me with a big grin. In his scoop is a nice ring with diamonds all around.
We start looking it over but no marks and he says right away it's fake. I could tell from the weight this ring was no joke. Back at the car he tests it with his diamond checker and they come up simulated. Oh well, better luck next time. I told him don't be stupid, even if the diamonds are fake the metal could still check out.
Long story short and $70 later he staring at an appraisal from a very reputable local jeweler for $2995. Platinum with REAL diamonds all around. Can you guess where that diamond "checker" ended up?
So be careful guys, sometimes it's worth getting certain pieces checked out, especially when you got that feeling. Good luck, happy hunting, Mike

Yowsers! Nice. I'm going to the beach tomorrow (I hope).

I forgot to mention the ring had some weird angles to it, not beveled like a normal ring. Turns out its part of a set and the ring he found sits inside a larger one. I know where I'll be tomorrow:laughing7:

Wow, the beaches around here have not been giving up much. I'm jealous. Would love to see pictures

He just sent them to me as a matter of fact, here ya go

Very nice. I have a couple of those uncertain unmarked kind of rings but never got back to to a jeweler for those pieces. Some of the jewelry places out here that I have been to in Orange county want to charge even for just a quick preliminary look. I understand their time is money but I would like some kind of an idea before spending more bucks on a thorough appraisal.

I thought about getting one of those diamond testers but never get around to that either. Do you think you or your friend my care to share the make of the unit he tossed ? Would like to avoid whatever brand that was tossed.

Im on a plane kiddin nice nice find that paid for his ctx

Nice find. Yeah I'd have thought it was fake too just because of it's weird shape and lack of fire... good thing he had it checked!

It's his 3rd ring with diamonds in the last 4 months. One 14k, 1 palladium, and now a platinum. He's doing very well.

I can see why there was no Karat mark in the ring. There was no place for a mark, there were diamonds in the way. Very nice find!

Dazzling, gorgeous ring find!:notworthy::wav:

That is unusual ring. Congrats to your friend!

No fire! Time to turn that bad boy into some $$$$

With all those diamonds there's just no space for a stamp!

Amazing find! You know platinum is like gold in that when you feel its weight you know your into something. Just like when you pop a gold ring outta the earth and it is glimmering no different than the day it was lost. Congrats!
