I think it is some sort of organic material, paper or moss. Any help is appreciated

Looks like some sort of chamois leather to me, with possibly Native American symbols.

Perhaps is that it is a form of "Bark Cloth" where people soaked and pounded flat the bark of certain trees, then dyed and decorated. Tapa from the Pacific islands has more geometric designs, so I would look at Australian Aborigines symbols. Modern pieces are sold to tourists.

Or as mentioned above, NA on leather - the edge fraying looks right.

Thank you all for the responses. So molewacker, how would you verify it's age?

I mentioned bark cloth as you felt it was paper like - but bark cloth would have larger fibers on the end I found.

Might want to post to the NA artifact forum - might help with the id of the artwork.

Not sure how a Native American would have got a hold of a European chamois skin?

What did the folks at the home that was having the yard sale tell you?

Could be a Cub Scout project.
