Hi all,
My Aunt and Uncle from New Jersey (who I haven't seen since 1994) are in town this week..my Uncle has collected coins most of his life and we both enjoy the metal detecting hobby. I thought today would be a good day to go on a hunt with him, so we arranged it and set out for an old property not far away. I had secured permission from a RE agent last week whose sign was in the yard of a vacant house..it looked like it was probably built in the 1940's. I was sure we'd find at least a few wheats there, and we did. Between us, we dug 91 coin targets, mostly clad, but we managed to pull 19 wheat pennies and 2 silver Rosies out of the ground before we called it quits. I also found my 26th hose nozzel and an antique toy truck The wheats were dated from 1929 to 1958, and the silver dimes were 1946 and 1953. My Uncle found both silvers so I was happy for him. I was sure we'd find a Merc or two, and perhaps a silver quarter, but we didn't find any. We had a great time all the same, it was quality time spent with my Uncle We stopped for lunch on the way back, where we talked about coins and detecting.
The weather was perfect today, not too hot and a little cloudy..this was the day to hunt because more rain is expected later. Here's the pics:
Hope everyone has a great week!
