While waiting for the rain and snow to stop, I looked at the box of relics in the pic that I found before Dman began relic hunting with me. These relics came from the saddle of a ridge above the field where I dug the Tennessee Veterans Pin last November. Not too impressive as CW Relics go but the "Y" shaped gun tool is for an Austrian-Lorenz Rifle that used .54 cal. 3 ring bullets. Since Dman and I recovered 60+ dropped .54 cal. 3 ring bullets from the TENN PIN field, it became obvious that the troops who were resting in the field patrolled the ridge also. I do know the Tennessee Union Troops stationed there were issued .54 Austrian Rifles early in the war. At that site, .58 cal. Springfield Rifles slowly replaced the Austrian .54s. Dman found a couple of .dropped 69 3 ringers in the TENN PIN field also. The saddle on "Yankee Ridge" has produced several more bullets in the last three years. It's remarkable how relics that you find can help date a site. Thanks for looking and Happy Hunting SOON!!!
