Hello ,

I bought Yankee Doodle spirit of 76 painting from Auction . I have attached pictures of it . ITs old wooden frame .
Seems like its on canvas not the print . How can I verify is it among the early copies.

I have attached pic to identify. Its on Canvass . Can it be real from the early copies ? please advice.

1) it has signature in Red
2)print of 1776 mark with publication detail
3)clay . gosack and com .printed on the wooden wheel

I have no expertise in art, but I do remember seeing that picture every day during my elementary school days. That would be the early 1950s. It hung above the chalk board in my second grade class. That would make me think there might be quite a few versions of that piece.

As a follow up - an "authentic" chromolithograph done in 1876 for the Philadelphia Exposition by Clay, Cosak & Co of Buffalo, NY under commission by J.F. Ryder is listed on the site below for $1,495 . . . so don't toss it out just yet. It's up to better minds than mine to determine if yours is of that age or a more modern copy.

This pic has all the logos and sign which you have mention so i thought it can be good collectible. Does it has any value ?
Original pciture is in gov. building but i am thinking it might be from the early copies made by the Clay & gosack company in 1800's .
Also i touched it and felt like its thick canvas not the paper print .

This picture has all the sign mention by the Charlie : Spirit of 76 Yankee Doodle Chromolithograph Willard (item #1197784)
Can it be worth couple of hundread $.

Yeah. It's really interesting and I submitted pic in few print galleries and they are interested to see pic and will fix appointment. It's not original pic as its in gov building but getting signs that it's one of the early primary or canvas which is printed by a.m. Willard. As he made some other copies by himself.. I am hopeful to get some news in coming weeks..
