Hi everyone. Can anyone tell me if it's safe to keep detectors in the car during the winter?. We keep ours in the cars 24/7 "just in case". Summer and winter. During summer out of direct sun. Will an XP Deus that is kept wrapped in a blanket or coat in the car be damaged by cold temps through the night?. Thanks.

I know I've read that u shouldn't leave in extreme temps so it's probably best to bring them inside a bit of a inconvienance but at least u don't have to worry that it will work

They both state not to in the owner manuals.
Heat is bad, and cold drains battery life. (Where do you park:laughing7:)

I was parking in the garage but decided to let my wife have the garage now during winter since Im home right now. We're in CT. Snowed last night first time. Early for the season but its New England so you never know UGGG. I have both wrapped in blankets right now but I guess from now on Ill leave them in, it's really winter now so thats about it.

You have too much money invested in those detectors so keep them in doors. Wrapping them in a blanket will not change the temperature of the detectors in your car.

WRapping blankets around them doesnt do anything to protect them from temperatures. The problem with temp extremes is that the detector is made of a lot of different components and every one of them (including the solder joints on the PC board) contract at different rates. This can lead to those micro connections coming loose and failing of the detector. Then you have liquid crystal displays, differing rubber compounds and plastics in coil cables that can become brittle and break.

I pull mine out of my vehicle and keep them in doors as soon as temps are forecast ed to go below freezing.

I wouldn't do it.

I had stored my Tesoro Royal Sabre in an area subject to heat and cold, but certainly dry.

I pulled it out of storage, installed batteries, and it was totally non-functional. Certainly a longer story than that, but it went bye-bye.

Inside for me. I baby my detectors and when I'm comfortable then the detectors are too and vice versa.

Would you leave your laptop; cell phone; PlayStation; IPOD in your car all winter / summer? Why does this question keep coming up year after year? From now on I think we should all just say, "Yeah, do what you think you should do." :skullflag:

If you live in snow country, I would worry about the damp as much as the cold. All that moisture from melting snow carried into your car on your feet doesn't evaporate quickly in the cold so the inside of your car can be pretty damp.

I keep my Deus and CTX3030 indoors but have a T2 Classic that I keep in my truck "just in case". Have had no problems with it but if it dies then I am only out a couple hundred rather than a couple grand.
