XLT or MXT Convince me...

Hi I would like to know what you guys think which detector would work best for me. I would be hunting in old parks, school yards, soccer fields, baseball fields basically grass hunting. Im mostly looking for old silver and copper coins, and rings. and I would like to know which one goes deeper on coins/rings. any info would be appriciated.

they are both great machines with good depth.i think it will boil down to the display. the xlt has a more advanced display than the mxt.however the mxt is supposed to do better for nugget hunting (which apparently you wont be doing).the mxt has knobs to control the discrim, gain and threshold,while the xlt has a digital readout.the xlt also has user presets. you cant really go wrong with either but if it were me i would do the xlt.i like the digital display and the presets.

i currently hunt with an xlt.....works great for the things that you will be doing, where the mxt has a better nugget mode....the xlt will cost you a little more, but it gives you the touch and go option where the mxt doesnt....i have pulled pennys at 8-9 inches, with no trouble. most coming from the serface in the parks and school yards.
the mxt is going to be my next machine, just for the fact that it can find small gold, where my xlt doesnt....so for the parks and stuff go with the xlt....if you ever plan on looking for gold go for the mxt.
just my two cents, you cant go wrong with either machine, whites customer service is second to none.

I agree with the others..........I'd go with the xlt since your not looking for gold nuggets...........out of curiosity have you also checked out white's new M-6 It's a simpler easier to use version of the mxt....... I got one for my son and it's a great machine, retails about 700.00.....hope this helps and HH

This is good stuff. I am currently making a similar decision between the 3 Whites biggies (DFX, XLT, and MXT). However, I will be doing mostly relic hunting in fields around Culpeper, Va. (lots of hot rocks). In addition I will be doing some coin hunting in yards. I currently have the Wal Mart Special Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505, which has found me some goodies so far, but I need better depth. I am getting spanked out in the fields...

Any advice is appreciated...

I have an XLT and seldom play with all the settings it offers, would probably have done better buying an MXT. MXT is simpler to use, if you want to save a few $$$, then go with the MXT, if you have the cash and like playing with settings and tweaking, get an XLT. HH and good luck, Mike

I use the MXT and have no complaints. Some think it's noisier than most. And it is because of the high gain needed to find small gold nuggets. You can turn the threshold down and run it as a silent search if you want. But if I were not going to use my detector as a nugget shooter I would not have bought the MXT.

I have used all three. I like all of them. You can't go wrong with any of those three detectors.

The xlt is a great unit. I used one for awhile. But to many of them out there. The chances of that ball park not seeing a xlt is slim to none.

The mxt is one awesome powerful detector. It only lakes tone i.d but in relic mode you can get different sound. It's a sensitive deep detector. I think it's deeper than the xlt by a little.

But my first choice is a dfx. It's the best of the three. But I use alot of the features on it. It's a machine that takes alot of time to understand. If learned right you'll have a edge on every unit out there.

Mxt would be your best chioce. Every one here talks about not getting it because it's a nugget machine. I don't think you guys really know how well this unit is at finding treasure. It's a bad boy. Very easy to use and the best bang for the buck. That's if you don't want to devote a ton of time to learn the dfx or xlt.
