I talked to my local dealer the other day and we got on the subject of a list of machines that Whites sent him and was planning to phase out over the next year to make room for the latest and greatest. He would not give me much detail but he did let the Prism 2 slip out. It will be history. I asked him about the DFX and XLT and he has heard through the Whites Grapevine that in a year or so the XLT would be off the list of the machines that they now sell. When they make a machine above the DFX (and it will happen we all know that) the XLT will be gone.  It makes sense why would they need 3 top end machines for? When the DFX came out the price dropped on the XLT and when there machine is released above the DFX the XLT would drop even lower. So that is why it will be cut from there line up. That was my dealers opinion not mine.

SO what Im wondering has anybody else heard of this information? Is there any dealers on Tnet that can shed some light on this for me and other members? What do you think they will do to make a better machine than the DFX? What changes would you do if you had your say? I wish they would streamline them a little bit and take some of the weight from the unit. Im sure that could be done and I think that will be one of the changes.

I think lightness will be the way forward as re guards to most of the new machines that come out, we have seen cordless headphones when will we see the remote control bock with just a stem and coil for us to swing about. The XLT is avery popular machine in the UK a lot of people will be dissapointed to see it go.

more depth..or why bother...Whites needs to be able to compete with Minelab... I would say come up with a newer lighter detector that can get consistant depth...or do nothing...up to now...it has been do nothing... :(

Hey gregg can you post your settings on the dfx? There's no reason for you not to be getting more depth.I had a quattro for awhile and the dfx will smoke it.Something's not right.......rh

I have tried just about every program. Seeing you are getting such great depth send me yours...I will give it a shot! I have tried everything from Dave Z's program to everything sent to me. I am starting to think it might be soil conditions...but just so you know I have talked with probably around 50 people that report the exact thing...some still have their dfx..the others now own a Minelab or F-75. As far as my program I was running a modified/hot version of the eeprom hi pro program, I checked both ferrous and non ferrous responses...tons on clad and even only in soft soil 6.5 inches.... We had some really soft ground for the first full week on January... So I went back to my new and improved stock coil (just had received). The results 6.5 max.... By the way what kind of depth are you getting? It will be great for you to show your program here because believe me if it works...you are going to make alot of people happy! Alot of people started to question me having to tweak to get past 6.0....they were saying just get a Minelab....

I tried every combo you could think of lowering bottlecap reject to 1, juicing up ac sens when emi would allow and running gain at 4..... As well as a combo of everything in between... It was quite humorous though when people would send me a message "just put your ac sens at 80 and your gain at 4". If it was that simple I would be digging to China! :D

Wow Gregg, I sure hope it's your soil, or something else.

I just got a DFX and only had it out once because of work or weather...but I'm sure hoping for better depth that what you're getting.
My 6000Di pro got almost 10" on a barber dime...only once mind you, but still, I thought that was a great find .
I've found a couple IH's pretty deep too, over 6" I'm sure.

BUT.....the soil I was digging in was VERY,VERY wet...squishy, water comming up as you step on it wet.

But anyhow...I sure was hoping the DFX would at least get the maximum that my Di pro got and exceed it in the same conditions. I'm not looking for miracles, just getting what I paid for. And at the time, the Di pro wasn't cheap either.

I like the light weight of the DFX, soo much better than swinging the 6000, especially with arthritis setting in and i had to keep switching hands back and forth every ten or 15 minutes.

I hear minelabs are heavy..that was one of the discouraging factors for me and I cant see buying another machine for quite a few years.
I'd rather have a lighter machine I can swing for hours and get an inch or so less than another that would tire me out after an hour.

You are right though, bells and whistles aren't going to sell me on a machine...depth will, and ease of use. I bought the DFX when my 6000 series 3 got tiring to swing and I could finally afford a newer machine.

I think the only way anyone is gonna get much deeper is making a machine more powerful..and that would require more battery power...and that means more weight. All those double A's add to power used, not so much the voltage...otherwise, they'd take the 9 volters.

They need to boost power to those coils...that's where their problem lies in getting depth...

What they could do is make a seperate battery pack for an improved coil...and make that pack hip mount so as not to add weight to the coil or machine.

Now...if White's comes up with something like that...Hmmm...maybe I'd sell my DFX.
But...I think I'll keep it for now and see what I learn as I go on.

Al...I really like the fast response signals of the dfx...great for my style of hunting...been mainly clad...if you could see how many people have sent me pm's about the same depth issue asking me for help...you would not believe it! :o I got tired of looking at the Minelab users finds...not to say some dfx users have not made some nice finds too... I will use both...the depth meter on the dfx seems very accurate...that might be a problem! :D Well only time will tell...I will pit machine against machine..coil against coil...but will need a few months to get used to the se first...should be some interesting posts! :)

Hey Greg what is the price difference between the Minelab VS the DFX? Im looking to move up from my XLT and was just curious. I did get to swing a ML once and I thought I was going to loose my mind with its audio tones. I dont know if I could handle the sounds that machine makes. Is there a way to adjust the ML to have just 1 tone or do they always sound like a broken pinball machine? From what I have seen on Tnet I think the ML is deeper but at what cost and could I handle the tones and dont forget about the learning curve. To me it would be like starting all over again from page 1! I have swung a XLT for many years now and have been pleased with its depth as far as coin shooting. I got a Reale at about 9 inches last year and it sang like a song with a good solid tone and a VDI of 95. With the number and the tone I thought it was going to be a beer can at about 3 inches until I pinpointed. It pinpointed at 8.5 and was very small so I dug and about fell over when the Reale came to light. I would say thats pretty good depth. But anyway I just was wondering in the price difference and if you can change the tone ID setting.
