Glad that I got out yesterday as there is 5 inches of snow on the ground today. First place was a plowed field. The ground was mildly frozen but other than that it was fun. I used my new 11x13 X35 coil in 27Khz and pitch program and found a V nickle and a largie. My buddy found a flat button with E Pluribus Unum on the back. Research says that it has something to do with congressional people. Then my buddy and I went to an old school house that is on our old map but no one was home but there was someone home across the road who's house is also on the map and got permission. He did think we were a bit crazy as it was 34 degrees out and starting to snow. We are addicted. I switched to the 11" X35 coil and went to 12Khz, zero disc and full tones. In the front yard I got a Merc (1919S) a 1854 Seated quarter ( with a hole in it just where the mint mark would be. An 1854 seated quarter with a large O mint mark is worth 750.00 in good condition, doah!!!) and then a TID of 97. I don't think that I ever heard a 97 in 12K before but I was thinking silver half. It turned out to be a hard to identify very large British penny from 1831. It was very crusted but using Andre's pencils and an hour of elbow grease I got it to where I could ID it. I'll include before and after pics. It's amazing what those tools can do sometimes. I have found to not rub these old coppers while they are still fresh dug but to wait until they dry out completely so that the base layer can harden. That way the details don't get wiped out.
