Re: ww11

It's spelled wrong and should read kaputt, german from the french word capot.

German: It means broken; broken down; shattered; done-in; whacked; ruined; bust(ed); crook.

uh not on not on a world war 2 german truck --- :icon_scratch: since hitler was their leader, and that would have got you shot on sight or at least sent off to the "death camps" for sure --it means " hitler's thru / finished " ---

I think this would have been on a plaque (mounted on wood) that were hung in German homes to show (or sometimes pretend) that you supported Hitler's regime. The ka-put added after the war.

Looks more like an American, (or Allied) piece of propaganda, not unlike the "stamping your but on the Der Feurer's Face", ashtray that someone posted recently. More than that, I'm at a loss.

this word is still used here, well my dad still uses it to describe exactly that! i think it probably was a word brought to england/usa following celebrations in france immediately after the war was over, with the soldiers telling the french people hitlers status!
deffinately somebody celebrating the downfall of hitler!

Depending on spelling, the meaning varies...

The Latin root caput, for "head"...

Or point your finger like a gun and say capott and it may mean you're dead.

During WWII, and prior to Hitlers death, it probably meant that he was the head man, however, if it dated to after WWII, it meant that he and the reich was dead.

It may date from the early 1930's to the mid 1940's.
