There's just so many good fakes floating around, Have you seen any before with this hardware on the back? I know there's so many differences between makers, etc. I also wasn't sure about the area above the wing being solid instead of cut out. Any idea what maker it could be?

A great site for information on WWII German militaria is Wehrmacht-Awards, here's the link, if needed I can make a post there with a link to here and see if I can find some information.

Nazi memorabilia is a minefield, and one must know what they are looking for to determine real and fake.

That pin looks way too wimpy for a real award. I vote fake. Gary

I think the Germans would have had a makers mark for sure, I’d say reproduction

Saw this one kinda late but I figured I'd add my 2 cents....

Most Third Reich era badges are makers marked, but not all. Being unmarked doesn't immediately mean a badge is a repro or a fake, and being marked doesn't mean real.

I have never held a real version of this badge. I've seen them in display cases, but never really looked closely at them. In my opinion though from having owned many other badges, if I saw this one for sale as a genuine badge I think I'd pass. I'm basing that on the silvering being incomplete at the tail of the eagle, the feathers on the wing look too rough, and the holes around the ships bridge don't look fully cut out. Plus the way the pin is attached looks completely wrong. It just doesn't have the finish that I would expect on a period piece. If I had to guess I'd say it looks like one of the badges sold by Reddick in the early 90's

One little known fact, stuff that was issued or awarded to non-German Nazis was of a lesser quality, also, as the war progressed and raw materials became scarce, the quality of everything diminished.
