Got a short hunt in and found a few items today. I received permission to hunt the university campus as I am a student. A portion of the campus was used during WWII. Found a shell stamped LC78 (post war). Also found some US Marine Corps buttons (assume WWII), some shrapnel, an unknown patina item and 3-4 in clad. Any idea what the patina chunk is?

Yep, completely agree on that one.

Hard to tell exactly what your cartridge is without knowing the caliber or at least the size. It looks like a fired blank round that could have been used during training, or maybe filming a movie?

Lucky you !!! I live in a University town and they have a no MDing rule. It'a very old site and I would love to get permission but no go for now. Congrats on your finds.

Definitely an early style blank round. Newer ones are crimped at the end.

Our University is fairly new. Enrollment is about 2500-3000 each semester so there is a decent amount of traffic with some nice common areas. It setup on the current campus in 1960 with one side, I believe, was used in WWII as barracks or a base camp. These buildings are still there and have that typical military look to them. Nonetheless, there is a potential for some silver with lots of clad in the common areas. I'm going to be giving it a run over fall intermission and see what I can come up with.

After researching further, you guys are right on as the shell being a blank. Looks to be a 7.62 M82 blank. Thanks again!
