Went the other day to a place where some WWII army barracks used to be and had a pretty good day for a place thats been pounded to death. I found part of a lipstick tube, what I'm guessing to be a Remmington United States Marine Corps shotgun casing, a bullet with the date 43, two 13 stars buttons, 2 wheaties a 1910 and 1917, and 2 mercs a 1937 and 1941. I only got to hunt for about 2 hours, then i got kicked out:dontknow: haha.

UMC on the shot gun shell is for Union Metalic Cartridge company.

the button is in fact WW2. it is from a set of HBT's (Herringbone Twill). it was sort of a general purpose combat uniform

Interesting, looks a lot like some early buttons I have found at some of my Colonial sites, must have been a popular pattern.

Great hunt! I found a button a week or so ago that looks just like yours. Was wondering what year it was from. Thanks for posting.

think they used them in WW I too - cause I found them at a WW I training camp too - that was gone by WW II

Thanks for the information on the buttons. I wasnt quite sure if they were from WWII or earlier.

Thanks, for the info on the UMC. I was just taking a shot in the dark haha

The Arrow was a popular shell in the UMC lineup which carried over a few years after Remington merged with UMC around 1912. So I am guessing yours dates to circa WW1.

The rifle cartridge appears to be a .30 M-1 Carbine round, and a fairly early one since it was introduced in mid-1942. My dad carried one in the Philippines in WW2 and thought quite highly of it.

Thats some cool info thanks for sharing.:icon_thumleft:
